The Night Paddy Murphy Died

1) On the night that Paddy Murphy died, is a night I’ll never forget,

Some of the boys got a load of drunk and they ain’t got sober yet,

As long as the bottle was passed around every man was feeling gay,

O’Leary came with bagpipes and music for to play.

Chorus:  That’s how they showed their respect for Paddy Murphy

That’s how they showed their honor and their pride

They said it was his intershame and they winked at one another

And every drink in the place was full the night Pat Murphy died.

2)  Oh, as Mrs. Murphy sat in the corner pouring out her grief,

Kelly and his gang come tearing down the street,

They went into an empty room with a bottle of whiskey stowed.

They put the bottle with the corps to keep the whiskey cold.

Chorus:

3) About 2 O’clock in the morning, after emptying the jug,

Doyle pulled up the ice box lid to see poor Paddy’s mug,

They stopped the clock so Mrs. Murphy couldn’t tell the time,

And at a quarter after 2 we argued it was nine.

Chorus:

4)  Well they stopped the hearse on George St. outside Sundance Salon,

They all went in at half past eight and staggered our at noon

They went up to the graveyard so holy and sublimed

Found out when they got there they left the corps behind

Chorus:
